Sculptra is a commercial brand of a collagen biostimulator, composed of microparticles of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) suspended in an injectable medium.
Sculptra is mainly used for facial filling and the treatment of volume loss and sagging skin. When injected into the skin, Sculptra stimulates the production of collagen, a protein essential for the structure and elasticity of the skin. Newly produced collagen helps fill in areas of volume loss and improves the overall appearance of the skin.
Unlike other biostimulators, the effect of Sculptra is progressive and gradual. PLLA microparticles are absorbed by the body over time, but the collagen produced remains, providing a long-lasting result.
PLLA is a biocompatible and biodegradable polymer.
