This page shows real Before and After photos of a breast reduction performed by a patient at the Living Clinic, by Dr. Francisco Martins de Carvalho.
What does breast reduction consist of?
Breast reduction refers to surgery to reduce the volume and weight of the breast.
It should be made clear that breast reduction and mastopexy are not the same thing. While the main aim of reducing mammoplasty is to reduce the size of the breasts (while also lifting the areola and nipple), the aim of mastopexy is to lift the breast.
How does it work?
This procedure can follow different techniques. In the vertical technique, the breast is left with a scar around the areola and another vertical scar from the areola to the inframammary fold. However, when larger reductions are made, it is also necessary to make an incision at the level of the inframammary fold (“T” technique).
The surgery is performed under general anesthesia, lasts up to 2 hours on average and is usually performed on an outpatient basis.
