Dermato-functional Physiotherapy is the area within Physiotherapy which acts in the prevention, promotion and rehabilitation of the integumentary system. In this area we deal with dysfunctions from many different origins, such as from surgical procedures as well as conditions arising from endocrine, metabolic, circulatory, dermatological, musculoskeletal or neurological order. Dermato-functional Physiotherapy seeks to to restore function and/or aesthetics. It is well known that disorders such as acne, scars, stretch marks, cellulite or localized fat are among some of the main causes for low self-esteem and are responsible for the emergence of localized problems that require treatment. Emotional issues are of added concern and thus these treatments represent a relevant role in the well-being of the patient who is suffering from these disorders. It is also known that these described conditions have a very high prevalence amongst our population and have not only aesthetic repercussions, but, above all, are a cause for important changes to the most diverse physiological human systems. In this sense, these conditions require specific care and a specialized approach by a properly trained health professional.
