What is Microneedling?

Microneedling with Dermapen is a minimally invasive aesthetic treatment that uses a pen-shaped device equipped with microneedles to create micro-perforations in the skin. These micro-injuries are controlled lesions that stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, essential structural proteins for skin firmness and elasticity.

For even more effective and long-lasting results, we recommend combining microneedling with radiofrequency, through Morpheus8.

What is Microneedling used for?

Microneedling can be used in rejuvenation treatments, hair treatments (with the application of platelet-rich plasma or substances that promote follicular growth), or in treatments for other skin concerns, such as scars.

In general, microneedling is indicated for:

  • Anti-aging / Rejuvenation;
  • Fine and deep wrinkles;
  • Pore reduction;
  • Improved skin texture;
  • Stretch marks;
  • Hyperpigmentation;
  • Skin laxity;
  • Scars;
  • Hair loss;
  • Cellulite.

How does Microneedling work?

Microneedling is a technique that creates microscopic channels in the skin, penetrating the epidermis and exposing the dermis and subcutaneous tissues. Through this controlled microtrauma, the procedure stimulates fibroblast proliferation and collagen production, thus promoting skin rejuvenation.

These micro-channels can also be used to allow the passage of macromolecules that would not otherwise penetrate the different layers of the epidermis, enabling complex treatment protocols with substantially better results than microneedling alone. This technique can be combined with localized superficial and medium-depth peels, compounds such as hyaluronic acid and vitamins, or platelet-rich plasma.

Application Areas

Microneedling can be performed on different areas of the body, adapting to the specific needs of each patient:

  • Face: softening of fine and deep wrinkles, reduction of enlarged pores, evening out skin texture and tone.

  • Body: improvement in the appearance of stretch marks and scars, promoting firmer and more even-looking skin.

  • Scalp: stimulation of hair growth, especially when combined with specific substances such as PRP (platelet-rich plasma).

This procedure can be applied on its own or combined with other techniques to enhance results.

Recovery and Aftercare

After the treatment, you should avoid getting the skin wet, exercising, as well as using a steam bath or sauna during the first 48 hours.

In the following 5 days, it is not recommended to be exposed to the sun or to apply makeup.

It is common to experience slight redness, a warm sensation, or swelling immediately after the procedure, but these effects usually subside within a few days.

To ensure the best results, it is essential to follow carefully the instructions provided by the dermatologist on the day of the treatment.

Expected Results

The effects of microneedling usually become visible about one week after the first session. To achieve consistent and long-lasting results, at least 3 sessions are recommended.

Progressively, it is possible to observe:

  • Improvement in skin texture, making it smoother and more radiant.

  • Reduction of fine and deep wrinkles.

  • Fading of spots and hyperpigmentation.

  • Decreased visibility of scars and stretch marks.

  • Reduction of enlarged pores and increased skin firmness.

  • Stimulation of hair growth when applied to the scalp.

Results typically last for an average of 6 months, although this may vary depending on the individual characteristics of each patient.
