Dr. José Pedro Pinto is a specialist in General Surgery, holding an Integrated Master’s Degree in Medicine from the Abel Salazar Institute of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Porto. After completing his specialty residency in 2019, he spent three years working in the Head and Neck Surgery Unit and, since 2021, has been part of the Surgical Treatment Unit for Obesity (UTCO) at ULS Braga – a team that performs between 250 and 300 bariatric surgery procedures annually.
He has accumulated 10 years of surgical experience, with particular focus on Endocrine and Cervical pathology (thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal glands, salivary glands, congenital neck lesions), as well as Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. Since his residency, he has developed skills in advanced laparoscopic surgery, which he continues to perform both electively and in emergency settings.
With a strong interest in trauma care, he has been a member of the Trauma Fast Track Working Group at Braga Hospital since 2023 and serves as a senior instructor for the International Trauma Life Support program. Among the many training programs he has completed in this field, he has a particular interest in the development and application of Point-of-Care Ultrasonography and currently serves as an instructor and coordinator for the advanced E-FAST course at PocusX.
He is the author and co-author of multiple scientific communications, both in scientific journals and at national and international conferences and scientific meetings. Notably, he received international recognition in 2022 with an award from the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders.
He is a member of the following scientific societies: Portuguese Society of Surgery, Portuguese Society for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Diseases, European Society of Endocrine Surgeons, International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders, and the International Association of Surgeons, Gastroenterologists and Oncologists.
